How to prevent

Pipes from Freezing.

1. Drip water.

Drip water from one of the faucets like a bathtub or the kitchen sink. The running water will help to keep the pipes from freezing.

2. Keep the heat on.

Make sure to keep the theromostat set to 50 degrees or above, especially at night when the temperatures could swing lower.

3. Patch any leaking pipes.

Ideally, these will be fixed by a plumber before cold weather hits but if you’re in a pinch, wrap or patch a pipe to avoid freezing.

4. Add faucet covers to outside faucets.

5. Wrap or insulate any exposed pipes!

6. Open cabinets.

Open cabinets keep warm air circulating.

7. Keep garage doors closed.

8. Seal cracks.

For a longer-term solution, seal cracks around windows, doors, and at sill plates.
